Planning an Extension Program to Develop Some Behavioral Aspects of Rural Women Using Household Waste Management at El-Gharbia Governorate

Abstract

This research mainly aimed at planning an extension program to develop some behavioral aspects of rural women in household waste management methods by identifying the current situation of the rural women respondents in relation to some of their distinctive characteristics and their levels of knowledge and implementation related to household waste management methods. It also aims to identify some of the factors associated with and determining their levels of knowledge and implementation in this field, to identify the problems that direct the rural women respondents in the research area when managing household waste, and finally to suggest a work plan for an extension program to develop some behavioral aspects of rural women in household waste management methods in the research area based on the results of the research.
  This research was conducted at El-Gharbia Governorate, Basyoun district was chosen randomly among the governorate's districts, and in the same way the village of Kafr El Dawar was chosen. A systematic random sample of 226 respondents was taken, and the frequencies, percentages, mean, standard deviation, Pearson's correlation coefficient, the step-wise correlation and multiple regression analysis models were used to analyze the data and interpret the results.The most important results of this research were:
- The results showed that 90.3% of the respondents had a low and medium level of knowledge of household waste management methods.
- The results also showed that 97.3% of the respondents had a low and medium level of implementation of household waste management methods.
- The results indicated that there are six most important problems facing the respondents in terms of the management of household waste. The problems as they came in descending order according to the percentages mentioned from their point of view as follows: lack of information related to household waste management, lack of awareness of how to recycle household waste, lack of training on how to recycle household waste, and lack of sufficient time to benefit from household waste.
- The research suggested an extension program to develop some behavioral aspects of rural women using household waste management methods.
