Abstract
Banana cultivation is of great importance on both the economic and food levels. The study primarily aims to analyze the value chains of banana production through three value chains: the banana cultivation chain, the banana ripening chain, and the banana waste recycling chain. The study relied on two types of data: the first being secondary data obtained from the Ministry of Agriculture's Economic Affairs Sector, and the second being primary field data from the three chains discussed in the study. One of the most important results was that the revenue from the banana production chain amounted to about 360 thousand pounds, while the revenue from the banana ripening chain reached approximately 2.71 million pounds, and the revenue from the banana recycling chain was about 14.4 million pounds. Meanwhile, the total costs for the banana cultivation chain were around 173.2 thousand pounds, while in the banana ripening chain it was about 25.45 million pounds, and the total costs for the banana recycling chain amounted to approximately 5.12 million pounds. The net profit per ton for the banana production chain was around 103.78 thousand pounds per ton, while in the banana ripening chain, it was about 1616 pounds, and the net profit for the banana recycling chain, was approximately 1550 pounds. The net profit for every pound spent in the banana production chain was about 1.08 pounds, while in the banana ripening chain it was around 0.07 pounds, and it was about 1.83 pounds in the banana waste recycling chain. The benefits/costs ratio for the banana production phase reached about 3.93 Egyptian pounds, while it was about 1.24 Egyptian pounds in the banana ripening phase, and the benefits/costs ratio for the banana recycling phase was about 3.11 Egyptian pounds. Meanwhile, the capital turnover speed for the banana cultivation phase was about 0.40 years, while it was about 1.23 years in the banana ripening phase, and the capital turnover speed was 0.27 years.
