Role of Family Communication in Promoting Moral Values Among Youth

Abstract

Moral values ​​are an important necessity of life and a factor that helps maintain the cohesion of societies and the communication between their members. Youth is one of the most sensitive and influential stages in an individual's life. characterized by being a transitional period in human life and a fertile ground for everything new. Moreover. during this stage. young people face numerous problems and changes. some of which affect their psychological health and others impact their relationships within their families and communities. From this perspective. this research primarily aims to study the role of family communication in promoting moral values ​​among young people. The study was conducted on a random sample of 400 male and female students from the first and fourth year at the Faculty of Agriculture. Alexandria University. The research followed a descriptive and analytical approach. Data was collected using a questionnaire to study the socioeconomic characteristics of the study sample and their families. determine the level of moral values ​​of the study sample. and determine the level of family communication between the young people in the study sample and their parents. It also aimed to study the reasons that led to changes in moral values ​​from the perspective of the respondents. and studied the correlation between the level of family communication and moral values ​​among the study sample. The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS V.25) was used to conduct statistical analyses.
     The most important results were the presence of statistically significant differences between the average scores of the sample members according to the gender variable. which was in favor of males at a probability level of 0.001 for moral values. and in favor of females at a probability level of 0.01 for family communication. It also showed the presence of statistically significant differences according to the educational level at a probability level of 0.001 in favor of fourth-year students regarding moral values. and the presence of statistically significant differences in family communication according to the presence of brothers and sisters at a probability level of 0.05 in favor of those who have brothers and sisters. while there were no differences between students of rural and urban origin in both moral values ​​and family communication. and the presence of a significant direct correlation between the age of the respondent and moral values ​​at a level of 0.01. and between each of the number of brothers and the average monthly income of the family and moral values ​​at a level of 0.05. The study recommended the importance of educating parents about the importance and necessity of integrating their children into family discussions and giving them the opportunity to express their opinions. as well as preparing Guidance programs to develop parents' family communication skills. focusing on the family's role in instilling moral values ​​in children and guiding them positively in line with contemporary changes.
