Implications of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder on A Sample of Children in Middle and Late Childhood

Abstract

This research was carrid out to investigate the cognetive, social,emotional and behavioral consequences of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder(ADHD) on a sample of children in the middle and late childhood stages.
The descriptive analytical method was used. The research sample consisted of (100) children aged from (6-12) years (75% males, 25% females) who attended the Early Childhood Intervention Center of Alexandria University, Zewail Academy for Skills Development and Behavior Modification, Al-Shorouk Center for Pronunciation, Speech and Behavior Modification, Alexandria Governorate. To achieve the objectives of the study, a questionnaire was used to collect data by personal interview with the parents and the children. The results showed  a significant correlation at the level of (0.01) between the score indicating the severity of Symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder as an independent variable and the score indicating each of the cognitive effects, self-esteem, and the score indicating aggressive behavior as dependent variables, also there was a Statistically significant relationship at level (0.05) with sleep disorders, ( insomnia). The results also show  the effectiveness of  medecinal and behavioural treatment(together) improving symptoms of ADHD, cognitive and behavioral concewuences, while the behavioural treatment  only  shows improvement in social adaptation and self -esteem.
