Abstract

This research aims mainly to identify the knowledge degree of greenhouse growers of the safe use of agricultural pesticides at Kafrelsheikh Governorate. For a simple random sample of greenhouse farmers, which consisted of (200) respondents, according to the Robert Mason formula, and the statistical methods which used were: frequency tables, percentage, arithmetic mean, simple correlation coefficient (Pearson), chi-square (q2), and multiple regression coefficients.
The results of the research showed the following: that (72%) of the respondents had medium and low knowledge regarding the safe use of agricultural pesticides in greenhouses, and it was found that there was a direct and significant correlation between the degree of knowledge of the respondents about the safe use of agricultural pesticides in Kafrelsheikh Governorate and between each of the independent variables were: training in the field of greenhouses, the preferred extension methods of the respondents in the field of greenhouses, exposure to information sources, the benefits of greenhouse cultivation, the purposes of production under the greenhouse at the probabilistic level (0.01), and the relationship was direct and significant with both: age and condition education, adherence to agricultural work in the greenhouse at the probability level (0.05).
The results showed that the existence of a significant direct correlation with the variables of the availability of irrigation water and the proximity of marketing outlets for greenhouse production, and it became clear that the influence of each of the following independent variables was significant: the preferred extension methods of the respondents in the field of agricultural greenhouses, exposure to information sources, the benefits of greenhouse cultivation, and the purposes of production under the greenhouse. This is at a significant level (0.01) based on the calculated (T) value, where its values were (2,974, 2,781, 2,518, 3,896), respectively.
This is in addition to the fact that these variables contribute to explain about (37%) of the changes in the degree of knowledge of the respondents about the safe use of agricultural pesticides in Kafrelsheikh Governorate, based on the value of the coefficient of determination (R2), which reached (0.365), and the most prominent problems facing the respondents when applying the recommendations The safe use of agricultural pesticides are: the high prices of pesticides and agricultural fertilizers, the ineffectiveness of the pesticide against the pest and the type of crop, the lack of reliable sources for the purchase of pesticides and agricultural fertilizers, the lack of knowledge of farmers about the ability of pesticides to mix, the lack of knowledge of farmers of the recommended concentrations of the pesticide.
