Content Analysis and Evaluation of Some Primary School Curriculum to Provide Scientific Knowledge and Healthy Behavior

Abstract

The objective of this research was to analyze the content of some primary school curriculum descriptively, quantitatively and qualitatively. Content of textbooks of Islamic religion education and Arabic language from the first to the sixth grades were used. While science and social studies included fourth, fifth, and sixth grades textbooks. The research was concerned with to what extent the curriculum help to develop awareness and behavior of pupils in the fields under study (personal, nutritional, body structure, environmental and preventive medicine). Results were compared with standard criteria to determine to what extent the curriculum are suitable sufficient to provide pupils with sufficient knowledge to gain healthy behavior in the area under study: personal hygiene, nutritional, body structure, environment protection and preventive medicine). Result indication that curriculum provided pupils with knowledge rather than establishing healthy behavior.
