Abstract
This research aims to identify current situation and the possibility of developing the production capacity of red meat in the Republic and the New Valley Governorate, study some productivity indicators and some technical and economic efficiency indicators in the study sample in New Valley Governorate. Results showed the decrease of red meat cattle numbers at the Republic and New Valley Governorate during the period (2000-2019), and the increase of beef and camel meat production quantity in Egypt, while buffalo, sheep, and goats’ meats quantity were decreased during the same period. Results also showed the increase of production value of beef, buffalo, sheep, goats and camels’ meats in Egypt, and the amount of red meat production in the New Valley were decreased during the same period. With regard to the comparative economic analysis of production efficiency for the first class, results show that the values of technical, distributive, and economic efficiency in light of the constant returns to scale (CRS) were 0.97, 0.11 and 0.08, and is increased to 1, 0.46, 0.46, respectively, in light of the variable returns to scale (VRC). Regarding the second class, values of technical, distributive, and economic efficiency in light of the CRS were 0.97, 0.37, and 0.36 and increased to 1, 0.66, 0.66, respectively, in light of the VRC, while the values of technical, distributive, and economic efficiency for the third class in light of the CRS were 0.94, 0.73, and 0.69, and it increased to 0.99, 0.89 and 0.89, respectively, under the VRC. This confirms the fact that there are capacity savings in the farms of the three classes.
