Determinants of the Voluntary Participation of Rural People in Non-Governmental Organizations in Ismailia Governorate

Abstract

The research mainly aimed to identify the level of voluntary participation of rural people in NGOs in Ismailia Governorate, as well as to identify the reasons for their non-participation and the relative importance of these reasons, and to identify the factors associated and affecting their voluntary participation in NGOs, and finally to identify the proposals of rural respondents and managers, which encourage rural people On voluntary participation in NGOs from their point of view, and to achieve these goals, a random sample of 283 respondents was selected from the selected study villages, and another sample of directors of NGOs in the same villages was randomly selected, consisting of 48 directors, and data were collected during the months of April and May 2021, and some statistical methods were used to analyze the research data, which are frequencies, percentages, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, weighted mean, relative mean, simple correlation coefficient, multiple linear regression, and stability coefficient. The research reached some results, the most important of which were the following:
1-    About 54.77% of the respondents do not participate in voluntary work in NGOs, and that 45.23% of them participate in voluntary work, and about 20.4% of them had a low level of participation, 14.49% medium, and 10.6% a high level of participation.
2-    The study limited 36 reasons that prevent rural people from voluntary participation. They could be classified into equal groups. Each group has 6 reasons. The most important of these groups is the group of religious reasons. The most influential reason for their non-participation is the use of civil work by the clergy in their favor with a relative average of 85.25%,and Then the group of psychological reasons, the most important of which was the internal conflict of individuals between volunteer work and other work with a relative average of 81%, then the group of administrative reasons and the most influential were the laws and regulations restricting the participation process with a relative average of 86.85%, then the group of social reasons and the most influential was the lack of awareness of the importance of associations Eligibility in community development with a relative average of 85.45%, and finally a group of societal reasons, most notably the community does not appreciate individuals participating in charitable work with a relative average of 79.75%.
3-    There may be a direct relationship between the degree of voluntary participation of rural people and the following independent variables: agricultural tenure, monthly income, political awareness, opinion leadership, membership of social organizations, the degree of family influence and the Attitude towards development. The results also showed that the independent variables together explain about 45.5% of participation in work. Voluntary social, but most of this percentage contributes to the following variables: agricultural tenure, monthly income, political awareness, the degree of family influence, and the Attitude towards development.
4-       The rural respondents suggested ten proposals, the most important of which was introducing the rural people to the importance of NGOs in the development of the village by 95.76%, and the respondents from the managers suggested eight proposals, the most important of which was to spread the developmental awareness of the rural people with a statement of its impact on volunteer work by 100%.
