The Role of Field Schools in Knowledge of Farmers about Recommendations for the Use of Pesticides in Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate

Abstract

This research aims to get acquainted with the farmers' opinion on the role of field schools in their knowledge of the recommendations for the use of pesticides in Kafr El Sheikh Governorate, through each of: topics related to agricultural pesticides that they want to be addressed in field schools, the return from participation in field schools related to the field of pesticides, and pictures of benefit from Field schools related to the field of pesticides, determining the degree of farmers 'awareness of recommendations for the use of pesticides, as well as determining the significance of the relationship between the distinctive characteristics of farmers and the total degree of the respondents' knowledge of the recommendations related to the use of pesticides, as well as determining the significance of the relationship between the opinion of farmers in each of: the topics related to agricultural pesticides which They want to be covered in field schools, the return from participating in field schools related to the field of pesticides, and pictures of benefiting from field schools related to the field of pesticides, and the overall degree of the respondents ’knowledge of recommendations related to the use of pesticides, and to know their opinion on the obstacles that may face the application of field schools when dealing with the subject of pesticides, And their opinion on some of the proposals to overcome these obstacles.
The governorate of Kafr El-Sheikh was chosen to conduct this research because it is from the first group of governorates of the Arab Republic of Egypt in which field schools were implemented, with a total of 50 field schools in the centers of Kafr El-Sheikh, Riyadh, Sidi Salem, Desouk, and Qalin, and this research was conducted on a sample of frequent visitors. The agricultural departments of the five centers, consisting of 254 respondents, were taken from the comprehensive research of 750 farmers, by means of a questionnaire prepared for this purpose, and data were collected during the months of May and June 2020. The data were presented and analyzed statistically by percentages, average relative weight, and tabular presentation with frequency. The most important results were as follows:
More than half of the respondents (51.6%) fall into the age group (43-50 years), and (44.9%) of them have an intermediate qualification, and (41.7%) of them fall in the intermediate category (7-12 1 year) in terms of the number of years of their experience in agriculture, and that (39.8%) of them fall into the category of large agricultural landholdings (3 feddans or more), and that (52.8%) of them fall into the category of medium renewal level, and that (53.9%) Of them, they are at the middle level to participate in the extension activities, and (48.4%) are at the middle level to the extent of their exposure to information sources related to the safe use of pesticides.
It was also found that there is a significant relationship between the total degree of the respondents ’knowledge of the recommendations related to the use of pesticides, and between the area of ​​agricultural land holding, the degree of the respondent’s innovation, and the degree of participation in the extension activities. It was also found that there is a significant relationship between the total degree of the respondents' knowledge of the recommendations related to the safe use of pesticides, and the opinion of farmers in each of: issues related to agricultural pesticides that are dealt with in field schools, and the return from participation in field schools related to the field of pesticides, and pictures of benefit from associated field schools. In the field of pesticides. The research ended with a set of practical recommendations that benefit from their application in improving field schools in the study area.
