Abstract

This research explains and analyzes the quantitative changes in total exports, total imports, and total deficit of the Egyptian trade balance in general and the deficit of agriculture trade balance in particular. The research also observes changes in exports and imports of some agricultural goods and products during the time period 2004 to 2016. To reduce this deficit, economies of foreign agricultural trade should be studied, and their role in reducing this deficit, especially that of the agriculture trade balance, should be underlined.
The research aimed at recognizing developments in amounts and values of total exports and total imports and their Egyptian agricultural counterparts during the time period under consideration, measuring change and growth rates of these exports and imports, and the reflection of the change effect on both general trade balance and agricultural trade balance, with special significance of the external trade of some important crops and agricultural products.
During the period under consideration, the Egyptian trade balance has witnessed a continual deficit. The annual growth rate of the deficit was 21% which equal in absolute terms to L.E 40.393 billion. The agriculture balance trade also realized a 17% deficit which equal in absolute amount to L.E 7.851 billion.
Unlike exports of cotton and rice which witnessed severe fluctuations and decreasing annual change rates, all crops and agriculture products - as potatoes, orange, refined sugar - realized positive growth or change rates during the period under consideration
No doubt that the growing domestic production of different crops became substantial in decreasing imports and increasing exports. In addition, Land reclamation process became considerable in increasing the cultivated area.
