Mechanism of Using Social Media in Agricultural Extension Work From the Viewpoint of Faculty Members in the Faculties of Agriculture at Egyptian Universities

Abstract

This research aims mainly to define a mechanism for the use of social media in the agricultural extension work. The data was collected from faculty members specializing in agricultural extension in the faculties of agriculture at Egyptian universities, the research population was restricting their numbers as it reached 110 faculty members to represent the comprehensive of this research, and the size of The appropriate sample according to the Karjesi and Morgan equation reached 86 respondents, and a questionnaire was prepared to achieve the research objectives and the necessary data were met through a personal interview with the researchers or WhatsApp, during the period from January to April 2020. Data analysis, frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and mean score were used to analyze and display data using the Social Sciences Statistical Package (Spss, version 16).
The most important results were as follows:
- The vast majority of the respondents (90.7%) agree to a high or medium degree on the possibility that agricultural extension through social media include the following fields: (the field of agricultural production, the field of agricultural marketing, the field of environmental protection from pollution, the field of recycling agricultural waste, the field Small agricultural projects, the field of rural family health).
- All respondents see the suitability of all the proposed images to provide informative messages via social media.
- The social media are arranged in descending order according to the degree of their suitability to communicate the informative messages to the farmers from the viewpoint of the respondents as follows: the mobile phone, the WhatsApp for the farmer or one of his sons, the Messenger for the farmer or one of his sons, the email for the farmer or one of his sons, Facebook for the farmer or one of his sons Instagram for the farmer or one of his sons.
- The appropriate source for preparing the scientific material for the advisory messages presented to farmers through social media is arranged descending from the viewpoint of the respondents as follows: researchers at the AgriculturalResearchCenter, faculty members of universities, agricultural extension device.
- That the type of material treatment appropriate to provide extension services to farmers through social media from the respondents' point of view is that they are without financial compensation, or that the farmer bears the cost of communication only.
