Extension Needs for Rural Women Carrying Out Post-Harvest Operations / Transactions of Green Beans Crop in some Villages in Nubaria City

Abstract

This research aims at determining the level of extension needed by rural women concerning for implementing post-harvest operations/transactions of green bean crop. Moreover, it aims at determining the correlation between the respondents' overall level of need for extension for carrying out post-harvest operations / transactions of green beans crop and other examined independent variables. The aim is to find out the extension services offered to rural women respondents about green beans crop. The final aim is to identify obstacles facing rural women respondents while carrying out post-harvest operations / transactions of green beans crop.
In order to achieve the mentioned aims, the research was conducted in Beheira Governorate, being among the governorates with the largest agricultural area for crop cultivation. The selected three villages are among the largest areas of crop cultivation, namely Al-Sedeek Village Yusuf, Al- AshartAlaf Village, and Adam Village.The size of the research sample in the three villages comprises 162 rural women of the wives of farmers landholders, using Krejcie Morgan formula out of a number of overall 280 farmers landholders. The sample of research was collected in the same distribution of the original community. Also, the research data was collected through a questionnaire filled during a personal interview, which was initially examined, situationally modified, and became valid for data collection in September and October 2021. The collected data was quantitatively processed and statistically analyzed using enumeration tables, percentages, averages, standard deviation and Pearson simple linear correlation.
The following are the most important findings:
The vast majority of rural women respondents (82,7%) have average operational need, while (5,6%) of them have high operational need for post-harvest transactions for green bean crop in the researched area.
The results also showed not having amoral relationship correlation between the overall extension needs of rural women respondents for the implementation of post-harvest operations of the green bean crop and the independent variable significant at level (0.01).
The results also indicate that the educational extension services provided by the Agricultural Guidance Authority to rural respondents in the area of research  the implementation of post-harvest transactions for the green bean crop are quite low, located between two ends, the highest of which are  (holding seminars and extension meetings) comprises 27.6% of the total frequencies, and the lowest of which are (coordination with refrigerator owners in the region to store the crop at reasonable prices) comprises 4.1% of the total frequencies.
Finally, the main obstacles faced by rural women respondents while carrying out post-harvest operations of green beans crop are located between the two ends, the highest of which is (high transport costs) comprises 96% of the total frequencies, and the lowest of which is (lack of refrigerators in the region) compromises 23% of the total frequencies.
